The 39 papers in this issue were selected following peer review of the work presented at the 13th conference of the IWA Health-related Water Microbiolgy Specialist Group. The conference itsel sustained the well established trradition of high-quality programme addressing key areas of current research in health-related microbiology. The selected papers are grouped into the following topics: drinking water aspects and catchment protection, wastewwater treatment and its effects on the environment; methods in microbiology; microbe behaviour in the environment; microbial monitoring ; and epidemiology and microbial risk assessment.
